Four Avenues of Service
In Yakima Southwest Rotary, we prioritize making our community a better place to live. Each Rotarian plays a vital role in this effort by participating in the four avenues of service:
Club
Vocational
Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society. Learn more in An Introduction to Vocational Service and the Code of Conduct.
Community
Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest. Learn more in Communities in Action: A Guide to Effective Projects.
International
International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more.
Did you know that several U.S. presidents have been Rotarians?
Leaders like Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump shared Rotary’s commitment to service and community.
As we approach Election Day, let’s remember the Rotary 4-Way Test as a guide:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all?
No matter who we vote for, let’s engage with respect, integrity, and a heart for the greater good.
Make your voice heard and vote! 🇺🇸 ... See MoreSee Less
Happy Halloween to all of Rotary District 5300 on this All Hallows’ Eve! ... See MoreSee Less
Las Vegas After Hours Rotary Club held their annual Halloween Club meeting and with our DG’s visit scheduled of the same evening, we decided to have a Disney-themed event to kick off the excitement for the 5300 District Conference Disneyland on Saturday April 15, 2025. Our DG got right into the spirit of the evening, dressed as Groucho Marx! It was a fun-filled, informative evening, with his favorite Italian food and lemon squares.
Also, congratulations to Jeremy Bruner who received his “VSP” honor from DG Driebe. ... See MoreSee Less

World Polio Day: Our Fight Against Wild Poliovirus
Today, October 24th, we celebrate World Polio Day! This annual observance was established by Rotary International to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against polio.
A Brief History:
1988: The Global Polio Eradication Initiative was launched
1994: The Americas were declared polio-free
2020: Africa was declared free of wild poliovirus
Today: Wild poliovirus remains endemic in just two countries
Rotary has been at the forefront of the fight against polio for over 30 years. Our efforts, along with our partners, have reduced polio cases by 99.9% worldwide since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.
Share Your Story:
We want to hear from you! How has the fight against wild poliovirus touched your life? Have you participated in vaccination campaigns? Do you remember a time when polio was more prevalent? Share your personal connection to this crucial cause in the comments below.
Together, we can end polio for good. Let's make history!
